Choosing a glass aquarium involves more than its length. Compare the display height, front-to-back width, filtration layout and access around the cabinet before ordering. This guide brings together the standard Yipinlanhe ranges and the details we need for a custom quotation.
Compare our aquarium ranges
| Range | Standard display dimensions | Main design |
|---|---|---|
| Arowana aquarium | 100–200 cm long; 50–70 cm wide; 75 cm high. Eight combinations. | Taller covered display with matching cabinet and sump filtration. |
| Side-overflow aquarium | 120–200 cm long; 60–80 cm wide; 70 or 80 cm high. Eight combinations. | Side overflow, lower filtration and configurable circulation. |
| Shallow stream tank | 80, 100, 120 or 150 × 50 × 40 cm. | Shallow proportions for river-style aquascapes and viewing from above. |
| E Series peninsula aquarium | 60, 90 or 120 × 60 × 55 cm. | Three viewing panels, end overflow, matching cabinet and sump. |
All dimensions are length × width × display height. Cabinet height is additional. Ranges show available options; not every length is available in every width. Each product page lists the exact combinations and inch measurements.
How to compare arowana tank sizes
Measure both swimming length and turning width. A juvenile fish fitting a tank does not establish suitability for its adult size. Before selecting a standard model, identify the species, expected adult size, number of fish and compatibility requirements. Request a custom size if the standard footprint does not meet your livestock and installation needs.
The Arowana range is 75 cm high, while the Stream range is 40 cm high. Height alone cannot substitute for sufficient length or width. Also leave space to open covers, service equipment and reach the sump.
For example, the 150 cm Arowana range includes 50, 60 and 70 cm front-to-back widths, all with a 75 cm display height. A wider option changes the floor space and turning space even when the length is unchanged. Compare the exact arowana aquarium dimensions and available finishes, then confirm the adult size and space requirements of your intended species before ordering.
Choosing a shallow stream tank
Our shallow stream aquariums are 80, 100, 120 or 150 cm long, with a 50 cm width and 40 cm display height. Choose the footprint after sketching the stones, planting areas and open swimming space. A low display gives a different view from a taller tank, but the layout still needs room for maintenance and access to the filter.
A river-style appearance does not specify a flow rate. Pump selection, outlet position and hardscape determine the current. Include sheltered areas in your layout and match the configuration to your livestock. For a taller aquarium display with a sump, compare the side-overflow aquarium range.
Litres and US gallons: compare 120 cm aquariums
Equal length does not mean equal volume. These options are all 120 cm long; their width and height explain the difference in calculated size.
| Aquarium | L × W × H (cm) | Nominal L* | Nominal US gal* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arowana, 50 cm wide | 120 × 50 × 75 | 450 | 118.9 |
| Arowana, 60 cm wide | 120 × 60 × 75 | 540 | 142.7 |
| Side-overflow | 120 × 60 × 70 | 504 | 133.1 |
| Shallow stream | 120 × 50 × 40 | 240 | 63.4 |
| E120 peninsula | 120 × 60 × 55 | 396 | 104.6 |
*These figures are nominal box calculations, not measured water capacities. Multiply the listed length × width × height in centimetres and divide by 1,000 for litres. Divide litres by 3.785411784 for US gallons. The figures exclude sump water; glass thickness, the operating water level, overflow and contents reduce usable display water volume. Use confirmed operating water volume when choosing doses or setting equipment levels.
Is a 120 cm aquarium exactly 4 feet long?
No. Four feet equals 121.92 cm, while 120 cm is approximately 47.24 inches. Likewise, 150 cm is approximately 59.06 inches and 180 cm is approximately 70.87 inches. An exact five-foot opening is 152.4 cm and an exact six-foot opening is 182.88 cm. Use a dimensioned drawing for a cabinet recess or built-in installation instead of a rounded “4 ft” or “6 ft” label.
4 ft, 5 ft and 6 ft fish tanks: check the exact dimensions
If you are searching by feet, convert the available space before choosing a metric aquarium. A rounded size label is not precise enough for a fitted cabinet or wall opening.
| Search size | Exact length | Metric length to compare | Difference in length |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 ft | 121.92 cm / 48 in | 120 cm / 47.24 in | 1.92 cm shorter |
| 5 ft | 152.40 cm / 60 in | 150 cm / 59.06 in | 2.40 cm shorter |
| 6 ft | 182.88 cm / 72 in | 180 cm / 70.87 in | 2.88 cm shorter |
This table compares lengths only; it does not specify an available width, height or complete package. Confirm the exact model dimensions and allow additional room for plumbing and maintenance. A tank that fits the opening exactly may still leave insufficient access.
What should I compare after choosing the length?
- Width: the front-to-back footprint, usable display space and room for your planned layout.
- Height: the display height plus the separate cabinet height, and how you will reach inside.
- Filtration: the sump or integrated chamber layout and service clearance.
- Delivery access: packed dimensions compared with doors, corridors and lifts.
For a 120 cm display, compare the actual options in the volume table above. For a 150 cm shallow display, the Stream range offers a 150 × 50 × 40 cm footprint. For a taller display, compare the Arowana range. An exact imperial-size installation can be discussed as a custom aquarium enquiry.
Plan sump and filtration access
The Arowana and Side-Overflow ranges use lower sump filtration. Stream configurations can use side filtration or a sump; confirm your selected option. A sump is part of the overall system, so allow space to access its chambers, remove equipment and service plumbing. The display’s nominal volume does not describe the sump’s working volume or its spare capacity.
Before ordering, ask for the tank and sump drawing, overflow position, drain and return connections, cabinet opening dimensions and the itemized equipment list. Confirm the operating water level and backflow allowance for the proposed installation with your installer. Pump flow should be selected for the actual system and livestock rather than from the display volume alone.
For a detailed comparison, read our aquarium sump vs integrated side-filter buying guide, including the difference between a side overflow and a side filter.
Planning a peninsula aquarium as a room divider
The E Series peninsula aquarium has three viewing panels and an overflow at one end. Decide which end will carry the plumbing and which sides need unobstructed viewing. Include clearance for cabinet doors, cables and maintenance when measuring your room; the aquarium’s display length alone is not the complete installation footprint.

Plan the room and delivery route
- Measure the available floor area, doors, corridors, stairs and lift openings.
- Allow clearance for cabinet doors, overflow plumbing, electrical connections and maintenance.
- Confirm the assembled dimensions and packed dimensions for the selected model.
- Check the load capacity of the installation location with a qualified professional when needed. A filled aquarium includes water, glass, cabinet, substrate and equipment.
Check what your aquarium package includes
Compare the display tank, cabinet, sump and plumbing separately from optional equipment. Pumps, lighting, heaters, filter media, aquascaping materials and livestock are not automatically included just because they appear in a display image. Confirm the itemized specification for your chosen configuration before purchase.
The E Series package includes the display aquarium, matching cabinet, sump and matching drain and return plumbing. Its pumps, lighting and other equipment are included only when specified in your quotation.
Standard stock or custom production?
All listed Arowana, Side-Overflow and Stream standard sizes and finishes are in stock and can be handed to the carrier on the day payment is received. Confirm the dispatch date for an E Series model before ordering. Custom production normally takes about 20 calendar days before transport.
Delivery to the U.S. and Australia
Aquarium delivery is free on a DDP basis, including shipping, customs clearance, import duties and import taxes. Transport normally takes 30–35 calendar days after dispatch. A custom order therefore typically needs about 50–55 calendar days for production and transport combined. Confirm the final schedule and delivery access arrangements for your address. Accessories have separate charges and delivery times.
