A peninsula aquarium offers three viewing sides and can divide a room. A wall-positioned aquarium concentrates the main view along one long face. Compare the room layout, plumbing end and service access before choosing a glass tank and cabinet.
This guide compares our E Series peninsula system with our side-overflow glass aquarium range. It is a layout comparison, not a claim that either design suits every room or species.
Start with the view you want
- For views from two areas of a room: consider a peninsula layout, with its short plumbing end toward a wall and access around the long viewing sides.
- For a display along a wall: compare a conventional rectangular layout, allowing for its actual overflow, pipework and cabinet access.
- For a built-in opening: request a drawing for the complete installation. The display tank dimensions alone are not enough.
Peninsula vs wall-positioned aquarium
| What to compare | Peninsula layout | Wall-positioned layout |
|---|---|---|
| Main viewing arrangement | Three viewing panels on our E Series: two long sides and one short end. | The long front panel is usually the main view; the visible ends depend on room placement. |
| Overflow and plumbing | E Series has the overflow at one end. Decide which end connects toward the wall. | Check the chosen model's overflow location and pipe route rather than assuming a clear back panel. |
| Space around the system | Keep the intended viewing sides and walking routes usable. | Check front and side access, plus any clearance required behind the system. |
| Cabinet and sump | Check which doors open and where sump equipment can be removed. | Make the same checks; being against a wall does not remove the need for service access. |
| Our ranges to compare | E60, E90 and E120 peninsula systems | Side-overflow glass aquariums, with the final placement confirmed in your layout. |
Compare two 120 cm glass aquarium options
The E120 peninsula display measures 120 × 60 × 55 cm. The 120 cm side-overflow option measures 120 × 60 × 70 cm. They share the listed length and width, but the side-overflow display is 15 cm taller. Cabinet height is additional in both cases.
The E120's nominal box volume is 396 litres, approximately 104.6 US gallons. The 120 × 60 × 70 cm option is 504 litres, approximately 133.1 US gallons. These are calculations from listed dimensions, not measured water capacities: glass thickness, overflow, water level and contents reduce usable display volume, and sump water is excluded.
Do not choose solely by gallon capacity. Confirm the space requirements of your intended livestock, the viewing height you prefer and whether you can comfortably maintain the selected display. Our aquarium size guide explains the other size combinations and measurements.
Five measurements to send before ordering
- Available floor space: length and width for the complete tank-and-cabinet installation.
- Viewing sides: mark the sides you want to keep clear on a simple room sketch.
- Plumbing end: show the proposed wall connection, power supply position and access space.
- Maintenance space: record clearances for cabinet doors, covers, sump access and equipment removal.
- Delivery route: measure doors, corridors, stairs and lifts, then compare with the confirmed packed dimensions.
For a large installation, confirm the floor's load capacity with an appropriately qualified professional. Allow for the complete filled system, including cabinet, water, glass, substrate and equipment.
What is included in a peninsula aquarium package?
Our E Series package includes the glass display tank, matching cabinet, sump and matching drain and return plumbing. Pumps, lighting and other equipment are included only when specified in your quotation. Ask for an itemized list when comparing systems so that you compare equivalent packages.
Need a different footprint or a particular cabinet finish? See our custom glass aquarium and wholesale options. Send the required dimensions and configuration so we can confirm the proposed build.
Planning the filtration and service access? Read our sump vs side-filter guide before confirming the equipment list.
Delivery to the United States and Australia
Aquarium orders include free DDP delivery, covering shipping, customs clearance, import duties and import taxes. Transport normally takes 30–35 calendar days after dispatch. Confirm E Series dispatch timing before ordering; custom production normally adds about 20 calendar days. Delivery and production estimates include weekends. Accessories have separate delivery terms.
Check the proposed delivery date and access arrangements for your address before placing an order. Read our shipping policy and return policy for the applicable terms.
Common layout questions
Can a peninsula aquarium be used as a room divider?
Yes, that is a layout to consider for a three-sided display. First confirm the position of its plumbing end, usable walking space and service access. A room sketch helps us discuss whether a standard E Series footprint fits.
Can I turn any standard aquarium sideways?
Check the model's viewing panels, overflow location, pipework and cabinet doors before deciding. Rotating a tank does not change those features. Specify a peninsula configuration if three viewing sides are essential to your project.
Is the 120 cm E120 exactly four feet long?
No. It is approximately 47.24 inches long; four feet is 48 inches, or 121.92 cm. Use the confirmed full system drawing for a fitted opening.
